Twilight - Lie

Everyone lied at least once in their life, but not all the lies are same. There are many different kinds of lies and different reasons. In this book, Twilight, there's an significant lie to save both of their lives. Also some lies can hurt people so badly. For example, when Bella had to leave to Phoenix escaping from James and keeping her father, Chalie, safe, she had to lie that she is tired of his unstruggling for family. And it hurted Chalie a lot. Bella said, "I could think of only one way to escape, and it involved hurting him so much that I hated myself for even considering it. But I had no time, and I had to keep him safe." So she had to lie for herselves and Chalie's safe. Instead saving their lives, she had to hurt one whom she love so much. Comparing to 'atonoment' which had a little girl's lie for her jealousy, this is forgivable. Because in atonoment, she lied for her own benifit and it totally ruined two lover's lives and love.

Twilight - LOVE

Love can make almost everything possible. It can change people's personality, and also can make miracles. When she was in the hospital because of Jame, Edward said,"It was impossible... to stop. Impossible, but I did. I must love you." For him it was impossible to stop sucking or drinking Bella's blood because of his condition, but he did. And it definitely shows how much he care about Bella and love her. I think also the love is to stay with that person like when Bella said, "Stay, Edward, stay with me". It was Bella's expression about her love towards to Edward. But there's a sad truth for this love. Love between a vampire and a human is dangerous and impossible. But when people are in dangerous and risky circumstance, they tend to do that, so in this case, that's probably why Bella was so tempted to fall in love with Edward. But because of their risky love, they had to keep limitations required for their limited love. But I want to praise Bella that she tried to find her love even by riskying herselve.

* Chemistrical numbers

My first aunt has a singleton daughter. She is the one who seems perfect. She is good at singing so she is solo in her high school choir. And she is also good at atheletic. She won the first in 'Riding Unicycle' competition. But nobody is perfect. One day, in her chemistry class, she was supposed to make methenal, but somehow the process was mixed with other chemicals and it blew the whole chemistry room away.

Hi, Bella. I read about your life related with vampires and your love. You knew that it was very dangerous to approach to him when you figured out he was a vampire. But how did you approach to him? I guess you just feel the interesting, and attracted by Edward. Actually, for me that was brave to do it after you know that he is a vampire, even if he was pretty attractive. If I were you, I would keep his whole family away from me. So I liked this part of your characteristic, bravery. Also I could see how deeply you fall in love with him by this quote : "I could talk to him forever,never sleeping, never leaving his side." I could tell how much you love him by this quote. Also I found out you secretly want Edward to bite you, so that you never have to sleep or leave his side. I hope your deep desire become true and have a happy life. Bye

Two trio members went to the "Petco" which is the third biggest in the world by riding tricycles.

Twilight - Characters(setting)

In many cases, people are usually interested in someome who doesn't show all of their insides, especially in love. In this book, the author planned a proper setting for these kinds of loves. First, she made Edward can read people's mind, second, she also made Bella cannot be read her minds by Edward. So it made the start different than others by has her unique outstanding differences as a new girl which also can make the interests for many people. And for Edward, the fact that he cannot read her mind caused his curiosity, because he couldn't know what she is thinking and it developed as their deep love. For example, the quote, "I keep thinking it will get less fraustrating, not hearing your thoughts. " from Twilight, shows the Edward's unability to read Bella's thoughts and also his curiosity.

Twilight(~ p.218) - Over the Difference


Difference can make people get together or bring together, because of their difference, they feel that they have no common or feel hard to approach. But this chapter in 'Twilight' shows us the reactions of two different character, Bella and Edward about their difference. Bella said, "Well, look at me. I'm absolutely ordinary - well, except for bad things like all the near-death experiences and being so clumsy that I'm almost disabled. And look at you."(210) In front of the differences, she compares herself to Edward whom she thinks so perfect. Otherwise, Edward has positive attitude about their difference. He said, "Trust me just this once - you are the opposite of ordinary."(210) He tries to make that difference smaller by making partner feel similar with him. Throughout his positive attitude about the obvious difference between him and Bella and their efforts, I predict they will come over that differences between them and make their love work.

Twilight (P.195) - FATE

Sometimes in the world, people have to follow their fates no matter which conditions or situations they are in, even though it seems not right. Also, every characters have their fate in the novels. Like in this book, 'Twilight', Edward Bella think it's not right to fall in love to each other, because they both know that it's hard to make love between vampire and human. But though they felt it's wrong, they fall in love each other unconditionally. Because it was their fate. For example, Edward said, "This is wrong(190)", "Don't you see, Bella? It's one thing for me to make myself miserable, but a wholly other thing for you to be so involved.(190)" This was right after Bella confessed her feeling about Edward. Edward and Bella both noticed their exact feeling about love each other, but Edward felt wrong and he reminds her that their love cannot be possible. Even thought they got confused and try to refuse it, it's not possible, it's their fate. So it says fate is fate. It happens no matter which conditions or situations they are in, even though it seems wrong as common sense.

#15 - Someone overcoming odds - Helen Keller

Helen Keller is the represent of this topic, 'someone overcoming odds', for me. She was a deaf, mute, and blind, since she was 4 years old because of the serious illness. She could just give up her life easily, because she was almost seperated from the world with education. It was hard for her at first time to learn for contacting with the world, but she finally did it and became a educator. She could make it, because she understood the patience. she said, "We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world." It shows that she overcame her disadvantage by being patient and brave. There's also another famous quote from her. "Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it. " She overcame her suffering, but it wasn't all. She spoke to people and spread her encourage, idea, and experience to people who are in hard circumstance like her. She succeed to contact with the world, and she showed the whole world that she who is a deaf, blind, and mute became educator and ecourage many others. I admire her patience to overcome her odds.

British Imperialism over Africa

Between 1870 and 1900, British imperialism expanded so rapidly. There's no simply answer for this event, but only combination of the many factors. One of those factors was the economic motivation with desires to gain economic benefits by establishing company in Africa, for example, Goldie's United Africa company, Rhodes, and the British South Africa company. Also they wanted new markets in Africa for British goods and resources of cheap raw materials. Another fact is that this imperialism was aided by the Industrial Revolution. It provided them Gatling Gun, the railway, and the steamship. Industrial Revolution caused technological advantage and the serching for new markets, especially in the depression. These two are the main causes to colonize Africa for British. But there's another fact about the participation of British in the scramble for Africa. After British started to colonize Africa, many other European countries started notice the importance of colonizing Africa. By many countries joined to colonize Africa, it was getting competitive. So British had to increase colonial involvement and the official control and maintain order in profitable. There was no special plan for expanding in British. They just motivated by competition, economic benifits with raw materials, and technological advances.

British Imperialism in Africa (Cause)

In the early 1800s, British colonized Africa for many reasons like religion, economics, technical developement, medical improvement, nationalism, and racism. One of the important reason was for their economic benefits. They wanted bigger market over the seas to sell their products they made. Also, they wanted improve their industrial economies by getting the raw materials from the Africa countries. The event called "Scramble for Africa" began in the 1800s and led a lot of European interests to colonize Africa for digging the raw materials like gold, diamonds, copper, and tin. Their Technical improvement also cause their colonization over the Africa. Steam engines, telegraphs, and railroads helped British to colonize deeper part of Africa being able to contact with their home country, while machine guns gave them a power to colonize the Africa. British's medical improvement like discovery of quinine gave them a chance to colonize Africa. Some of their ideas were the reason for imperialism. Nationalism made them proud of theirselves by gaining lots of colonies and Racism which is the idea that White is better than blck encouraged their colonization too. Religion was the another reason. Christian missionaries thought their religon and European rules might help stopping slave trade. There are many reasons for British to colonize Africa.

Romeo and Juliet (War + Love)

There are many various kinds of war like war between countries or between families. But whatever the kind of the war is, almost war affects lots of people's lives, and love is the part of our lives. There are many stories about war and love, and "Romeo and Juliet" is the one of the famous story about two families war and love. War can affects loves like it force them not be able to meet each other and seperated, but I think war cannot change their true love. Even they love each other a lot, they have to overcome lots of problems. But I think love is kind of fortune, which is hard to stop or prevent. Tybalt said, "Peace? Peace. I hate the word, as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. " This quote tells us how serious their hatered and war was between those two families. Falling in love with enemy would be really hard to believe at first time. Juliet said, "My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me that I must love a loathed enemy. " She had hard time to believe herself falling in love with enemy,but she finally notice that it's not her willing, but fortune. So the war can affect their life or the result of the love, but they cannot stop their love, like in Romeo and Juliet, they finally choosed death together for keeping their love. For example, "And when I shall die, take him and cut him up in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will fall in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun." from Juliet. Love between Romeo and Juliet was hard to keep because of the serious hatred and war between their families, and this war led these lovers to the death, but it couldn't stop and ruin their true love. Love was a fortune which no one cannot stop for them.

#12 - Imperialism and colonization- S.korea

일제 강점기 한국인의 삶과 민족운동 & '위안부' 리포트

Colonization usually affects people's life and their society. Many people had to become victims for those colonization periods, so it ruins their life mostly. In this book, they show us one wonman's misereable life as Japanese military sexual slave. Colonization affects the society as well as their life a lot. Like in this book, it says that after the colonization of Japan, Korean population had been decreased a lot, because many men were forced to go to war for Japan during the WW2 while the women were forced to go to military as sexual slaves. Depending on the woman in this book, almost men didn't want to get married with the women who was the comfort women. So also it caused the population. Also, it affects their societies like rules they made or the economic changes. In South korea, almost middle school and high school students have to cut their hair, and this rule is from the colonization period under Japan. Also, they tried to make people use only Japanese, so that we can forget about our root of ourselves. This book shows that how Japan deal with colonization and how Koreans fought and resistance it.

#11 - Global issues - Human cloning

Human cloning

Human cloning has been a big as a global issue. Writer of this article says, "Let me make it absolutely clear that I am opposed to human cloning on ethical grounds. It is open to gross abuse." I totally agree. we cannot allow the human cloning for only one reason that we need it for the dead influential people or the sickness. Because there are more dangerous way to be abused than the useful way. First, there is non ethical emotional risks like "What happens to a marriage when the "father" sees his wife's clone grow up into the exact replica (by appearance) of the beautiful 18 year old he fell in love with 35 years ago?" Human cloning will change whole global ethnic to the fallen, wrong way. And the cloned teens surely will have pressure that others see them as their memorial dead person, not themselves. Also, there could be the abuse of course, if we allow the human cloning. He asks us, "What would Hitler have done with cloning technology if available in the 1940s? " It tells us that there will be no more world peace, because like what he says, some powerful people can abuse this technology to make more power. Also it says that there's the risk to do the human cloning, he reports that there are many cloned cows have died with the unnormalty of their blood cells. Another problem is that cloned human might be not treated as human, but robot or slave. So I think we should not agree for the human cloning.

#10 - National & Religious Holidays

Christmas Carol - play + book

I think Christmas Carol is the good book and play for everybody to get lessons not to be selfish and be generous to others. Christmas is the international holiday to celebrate Jesus' birthday so everybody are supposed to get break time from their works, love each other, and be happy. A Chritst Carol shows a process that Scrooge learns and understand other's circumstance, get lessons, and finally gets genorous. I've been to this play with my host family, and I think it really help children to learn lesson. A closed mind and negative old man, name "scrooge" learnt that the world is not dark and worthless like he thought by traveling through the time ; past, present, and future. For example, "The school is not quite deserted," said the Ghost. "A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still." In this quote, ghost taught him how worthful the world is. After he met ghosts of present, past, and future, he changed a lot from dark and negative person to bright person. After traveling through the time, he said, "Lead on! The night is waning fast, and it is precious time to me, I know. Lead on, Spirit!" It show us the his big change toward the life.

Depend on this article, we can know more about the bollywood movies. Almost bolly wood movies have similar story characteristics like the love triangle, the marrige, and the happy ending. They have love triangle so that it's hard find their love and have hard time with it or have misunderstanding because of the interuptions. Also, they they are dealing with the topic, marriage. First time, they have arranged marriage by their parents, but finally they find their love and marry with the men who they love. Last one is the happy ending, which makes the bollywood movie more bright with their singing and dancing at the last part of the movies. We can see this characteristics in the bollywood movie, "Slumdog millinaire" and "Bride and prejudice". These are the characteristics that make bollywood movie fun.

#8 - Culture About S.Korea

There are various different cultures. It's good to learn different culture and understand it or introduce our culture to others. So I want to introduce the S.korea culture. There are many different culture about korea, but especially, our school life is a lot different with here. Almost high schools start at 8am and end at 10pm with same classmates everyday for a year. America high school end around 3 and they have many activities after school. There are some good points and bad things to be a korean high school students. We have to stay in the school for long times , but almost students are very close each others in the class. But there are not many activities , so it's hard to develope their talents in the regular high school. I think it's very different because our history,way to think and the societies are different with here. In S. korea, many parents and students think education is the best way to get a good job and be happy, so everybody want to get in the good college with high competitions. Like this, the countries' culture is depending on their societies, the way to think, and their own history.

Can't buy me love/ American't Suiteheart by FOB

Sometimes outside of us could change for any reason, but we should keep our true inside as same as before the change. In the movie, "Can't buy me love" shows us the two different change. First change was caused from the outside change of Ronald. When he got popularity, he came arrogant and ignore people that are not popular. This change made him lose himself, but the second change made him return to be himself. After first change, he got the greate lesson from Cindy and he tried to be himself again and get her love not buy. Also in the music video, "American's suite hearts" by Fall Out Boy, shows the change that make people popular but lose themselves and fall into the green river. From this two video and the movie, we can learn that we must stay be ourselves whenever it changed. In the movie, Cindy told Ronald , "Whatever happens to your popularity, stay yourself, don't change to please others." Like this quote we should stay ourselves.

#6 - Hope

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

There are many different types of people in the world, and they all react differently for the hard time in the life. During these hard times, some are finding hope and trying to overcome the problem with looking forward that hopes. Other are failing to find their hope and they cannot overcome the problem and don't accept it. In this movie, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" shows some characters who have some difficulties in their life, but they react and accept differently. Cristina felt that her life will not work anymore with Mariana and Antonio, so she told them that she would leave them. Antonio and Mariana faced the same problem, but they reacted differently. Antonio just wait for his another hope, accept her confusion and let it go, but Mariana was almost going crazy and she seems there's any hope existing in her life, she tried to kill Antonio and herself. It's really important to get our own hope in the life, so that we can overcome the problem when it comes. Also I think hope changes the our mind. People who have hope, they are happy, positive, and energetic even they are in the bad situation. In other words, we should have our hope in the life.

Slumdog Millionaire/ Islam- a religion based on terrorism

In the world, still, there are many religion wars going like Israel or Parkistan. Also in this movie, "slumdog Millionaire", shows the religion attack from Hindu. The people in India (in this movie)believe Hinduism and they thought people in slums are Muslim, so they attack the people in slums and murder the people. It made me think about the religion again. Also in the article shows the quote, "The most exalted form of jihad is fighting for the sake of Allah, which means sacrificing one's soul by fighting the enemies head-on, even if it leads to martyrdom", from Yunis al-Astal, prominent Muslim cleric and HAMAS member of the Palestinian parliament in an interview on 23 June 2007. I noticed that they got brain wash and how it caused cruel and violent thing in the world. Believing their own god is acceptable, but fighting for their own religion against others is not right. I think everybody who believe something are hoping for the world peace. They should respect everybody's peace not only for themselves. If they want their religion to be accepted, they should be respecful for other religion. I think it's time to stop the fighting between all kinds of religion.

#4 - Gender & The Gender Roles

The Movie - Mulan

Now a days, we can see many examples about changed of gender roles and steroetypes around us. Women take jobs like policeman, soldier, or doctor which was considered as men's job. Also men take jobs like fashion designer or hair designer which was often considered as women's job. And actually in the world, sometimes they can do better than opposite gender which took those jobs for long times as the gender streotypes, so I think it is really positive facts that stereotypes about gender roles are changing. There are also several movies showing about the gender roles. Like in the "Mulan", the girl took the job, called soldier or knight as regarded as men's job that day instead of her sick father. But as it shows us, Mulan did some important accomplishments during the war with another country for their country. She did better than other 'men' soldiers. I think this director tried to suggest us changing our stereotype of gender roles. The change of gender roles also can bring the success or dedication for our society, so it should be more encouraged.

#3 - Different Culture w/ our culture

Movie, The Clique.



Depending on the countries, almost every life styles are different like what we eat or what we wear. But now a days, the difference between these culture is decreased. Actually, just coming America for me is the experience of cultural difference, so almost everything I watch, eat, and hear is a whole new culture. I saw the movie the clique a few months ago.

There are some cultural differences between the America culture and my culture(South Korea). In the school, they are not wearing the uniform, but in S.korea, in the middle school and the high school, we have to wear uniform. So, I guess this difference cause other differences. For fun, they usually go shopping mall for shopping , but in S.korea, we just hang out the outside like 'France avenue' or go the karaoke called, "노래방". Also in this movie, they are doing 'sleepover' thing, but we don't really have the culture about "sleeping over". I noticed that there are a lot of difference between my culture and the american culture, but I couldn't feel that big gap. I think it's because of developed media and the technology, so actually I could see some of the western cultures when I was in S.korea.

#2 - Overcoming the difficulties- Baby Mama

There are many differnt kinds of difficulties in our lives. In the movie "Baby mama", there are some difficulties too. And watching overcoming these difficulties gave me many lessons related with our real lives. I think when we get a trouble or problem with something , almost people try for solution of the probleme or overcoming that. But even if we tried hard there still could seems no way to solve, and I think we should keep trying. We should belive our hopeness. Because in this movie, Kate looked for almost possibilities she can, but she couldn't get the way then she was almost giving up. But finally, she found the way called saragent. In our lives, there are difficulties in every situations. I think life is continuous of difficulties or concerns. After Kate found her way to get baby, she got trouble with her partner by difference of their life style. And I learned that going through the difficulties is not always bad. It helps us by figuring and struggling out the way for overcoming. It can give us new way for life or experience for that situation so that we can go through easier when we get same problem. In ''Babay mama", Kate can enjoy her self like playing some games or going to club by going through the problem with her partner. This movie gave me lots of lessons about the overcoming the difficulties.

#1 - Two sides of Natural Disasters...

Natural disaster has two differnt effect. One is sometimes natural disaster is good for our environment. Another is usaually it's a bad damage for human. A week ago, there was the big ice storm in Kenturky. It influenced to people who live in Kenturky in bad way. This ice storm killed at least 42 people and it ruined their property too, like home so that they have to stay in the shelter. It also made the temperature went down and the all power turned off. Usually natural disaster damaged people and their property, but it's not always doing bad things. Sometimes, it helps our environment. In savannas, forest fire were so useful for savannas's survival. It helped the healthier growth for native trees and removed nonnative trees. Environmentarists say savannas could be gone if there wasn't this forest fire. In this case, natural disaster works good way for the environment. I noticed that there is nothing only useless. I learnt that everything in natural conditions are useful and needed in some way.
